Special effects · Illusions · Engineering

The missing link between your ideas and the stage

Weezar designs and builds the effects, illusions and automation of your shows, exhibitions and events. From the first idea through to the structural calculations and the commissioning on stage.

Three crafts, one team

What we do

  • Open control cabinet: controller board, drive and wiring of a stage automation system

    Mechatronics

    Automation and motorised elements

Control logic, motors, sensors and actuators: we put movement into artistic ideas, safely and in a way that repeats itself night after night.

    • Motorised stage elements
    • Cued special effects
    • Interactive games and installations
  • Two technicians rigging illusion wires on a theatre stage during a rehearsal

    Effect creation

    Illusions and visual acts

Engineer and illusionist: we create images that hold up on stage, from the magic principle through to the final adjustment on opening night.

    • Bespoke illusions
    • Levitation of performers or objects
    • Holograms
  • 3D model of a trussed stage structure studied by the Weezar design office

    Engineering

    Design and structural calculations

Fixed scenography or moving effects: mechanical design, 3D modelling, fabrication drawings and the calculation notes your inspection body will ask for.

    • Mechanical design
    • Fabrication drawings
    • Structural calculation notes

Our ground

More than 70 sets, and effects that last the season

Vincent Wüthrich, who founded Weezar, is an engineer and an illusionist. He ran the scenery workshops of the Comédie-Française before going independent. Weezar brings those two cultures together: the standards of a national theatre workshop and the freedom of an effects designer.

  • Magic design for La Reine des neiges, l'histoire oubliée de Kay et Gerda, directed by Johanna Boyé, Molière Award for best young audience show 2024
  • Magic design for Cartoon, directed by Odile Grosset-Grange
  • Mechanical design of the flying system for La Mouche, directed by Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq
  • More than 70 sets at the Comédie-Française and elsewhere
